Why is good travel advice so hard to find?

Why is good travel advice so hard to find?

Travel planning today is messy. The best tips are scattered across apps, buried in screenshots, or stuck in someone’s head. We built Scout to make travel simpler, smarter, and more human by solving three big problems:

1

The Authentic Advice Problem

Most travel planning resources don't provide advice from real people. What matters most is what travelers like you recommend.

2

The Decentralized Problem

The best travel planning resources vary by city, country, interest (food, transport, outdoors etc.), and device (web vs mobile).

3

The Lost Advice Problem

More than half of travelers do not have a place to save tips, lists, or itineraries. The rest use Docs, Sheets, the Notes app, or even physical notebooks.

It all started with an idea.

It all started with an idea.

Chris (our founder) refined the idea that became Scout over nearly a year, drawing from his own travels and countless conversations with others. What started with him scribbling “Proximity chat irl social media” in his journal has evolved into the Scout we know today.

Prior to founding Scout at 26, Chris had already:

  • Lived in 14 homes across 7 states

  • Taken 20+ road trips with family and friends

  • Flown solo internationally at 13

  • Spent 2 months solo backpacking Europe at 17

  • Studied abroad at King’s College London

  • Traveled professionally as a consultant

  • Worked remotely from Italy, Argentina, Mexico, and numerous US states
